Frequently Asked Questions
- Are Interlaced sources supported?
vMix supports interlaced inputs from capture devices, but it is recommended
that the "Deinterlace " checkbox be ticked to convert the inputs to progressive
before output.
It is theoretically possible to mix interlaced inputs to interlaced outputs but
this will only work under the following conditions:
a) All inputs are of the same resolution (ie 480i or 1080i). This must also be
the native resolution of the capture source, i.e a camera.
b) The output resolution both in vMix and in the display settings much exactly
match the input resolution.
c) The graphics card must support interlaced output
If the resolution doesn't exactly match the output at every step, scaling will
combine the interlaced signals resulting in a distorted output.
- Is my Capture Device supported?
The only way to know for sure is to test it out. DirectShow compatible capture
devices should work but during testing we discovered a variety of different
quirks in some lower-end hardware that required custom tweaks to get working. We
recommend the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro as this is card vMix is mainly
tested with
Note that while DV and HDV sources are supported, they are not suitable for real-time output due to the delay.
Devices to avoid include cheap USB based capture devices. While these devices
will work, we have yet to find one that did a good job of handling interference.
Most show signs of vertical banding and rolling horizontal bars. Note that this
is not a limitation of vMix per se but of the device itself.
